Dr. Zhou Shaochun's lecture series on External Counterpulsation(ECP, EECP) technology and Application -- in Zunyi, Guizhou

Dr. Zhou Shaochun, chief designer of ECP machine at home and abroad, was invited to visit the heart rehabilitation center of the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University and had an in-depth academic exchange with department teachers and director Shi Bei on the technical development of external counterpulsation.

During this academic exchange, Dr. Zhou mainly talked about ECP from three aspects:

01

Application scenarios and development trend of ECP in developed countries

ECP has been widely used in the treatment of ischemic heart disease and stroke in China since the late 1970s.

In 1992, the US Food and Drug Administration confirmed that ECP can be used to treat stable and unstable angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock. In 2002, congestive heart failure was included in its indications.

In 2013, the European Society of Cardiology included ECP in the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of stable coronary heart disease.

At present, ECP has been widely used in the rehabilitation of a variety of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, Parkinson's disease, tinnitus, sleep disorders and other diseases.

External counterpulsation and exercise rehabilitation are similar. Both of them can improve patients' exercise tolerance and quality of life, improve cardiovascular function and vascular endothelial function, and reduce vascular stiffness. Compared with exercise rehabilitation, external counterpulsation greatly reduces the risk of cardiovascular events, because the heart rate and blood pressure of patients will not increase during the treatment of external counterpulsation, It is more suitable for friends of patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases with a variety of diseases, and has a wide application prospect in the field of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

02

Clinical significance of ECP in different departments (Cardiology, rehabilitation, neurology, etc.)

At present, more than 30 countries in the world have used external counterpulsation to treat ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Taking Zhongshan first hospital as an example, in addition to 60% - 70% of patients with coronary heart disease, 30% of patients with cerebral infarction. Usually, for ischemic diseases, the use of external counterpulsation will play a good help, because external counterpulsation can speed up the blood flow and improve the blood perfusion of important organs such as heart, brain, eyes and ears.

03

Importance of ECP in the construction of cardiac rehabilitation center

The uniqueness of external counterpulsation is that it skillfully uses the pulsating blood flow of the human body and mobilizes the repair function of the human body to cardiovascular injury. It belongs to a non-invasive green treatment method and has no side effects caused by invasive treatment.

In 2002, the American Heart Association / American Society of Cardiology (AHA / ACC) also included external counterpulsation in the clinical treatment guidelines for coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. In 2006, the European Heart Association also included external counterpulsation in the treatment guidelines for coronary heart disease, and raised the level of evidence and recommendation when the guidelines were republished in 2013. In 2007, the Chinese Medical Association also included external counterpulsation in the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. In 2011, China published the consensus of experts on the clinical application of external counterpulsation.

External counterpulsation can be used not only for treatment, but also for prevention.

External counterpulsation can be used to intervene in the early, middle and late stages of atherosclerosis for high-risk groups of cardiovascular disease with high blood glucose, high blood lipid, hypertension and high body weight.
